Happy New Year!! New 2019 LEGO Star Wars Winter Sets!!

Happy New Year everyone, hope you all have a great 2019. The new LEGO Star Wars sets hit the stores today. At a first glance I am not sure how I feel about this wave. The new AT-AP and Droid Gunship look very similar to the winter 2014 models. Instead of these sets, I would have rather gotten a long overdue Battle of Endor (8038) or a larger version of the Revenge of the Sith Vulture Droid. In this post I will go through each set and give a short blurb on my opinions of the sets, as well as a rating.

Elite Praetorian Guard Battle Pack (75225)
Amazing! We get 3 Praetorian Guards. The concept of the training arena is a cool concept which we have not seen in the LEGO Star Wars sets. You also get a black Imperial Droid which is kind of like a bonus figure since we normally get 4 mini figures. I give this a 9/10 and look forward to selling this set on my eBay page. Make sure to follow my socials so you can be the first to get them.

Death Star Escape (75229)
Very cool. I am looking forward to picking up this set. We have seen the 3 minifigures before, but they are still nice. What’s unique about this set is the structure can open and close so Luke and Leia can swing to safety. 8.5/10

Droid Gunship (75223)
This set is great, however we have seen a similar model in the winter 2014 wave. They did some touching up to the design to make it look cleaner, but it’s just to similar to the previous model. The best part about this set is the 2 new Kashyyyk Battle Droids. I am excited to get a new version of them after many years. It terms of the set itself it’s a 7/10, mainly because it’s so similar to the 2014 droid gunship.

Tie Fighter Attack (75237)
This is one of the first Star Wars sets in the LEGO juniors series. I like it, It’s a great way for younger future builders to become confident and explore their creativity. Overall It’s a cool set, the playability looks strong. 9/10

Rebel A-Wing (75247)
This is an okay set. It’s apart of the LEGO Juniors series. The A-Wing looks a bit boxy. The thing that really bothers me is the 3 open gray studs on the front sides of the ship, it looks off. But the minifigures make up for the poor A-Wing design. 5/10

Inferno Squad Battle Pack (75226)
When I look at this set I see a skilled team of elite soldiers. This set is from the Star Wars Battlefront video game. The minifigure printing looks very detailed. In my opinion, the speeder is the best battle pack vehicle we have ever gotten. It looks clean and fast. I will also be selling this set on my eBay page very soon. I give this set a 10/10.

AT-AP Walker (75234)
This set is extremely similar to its winter 2014 model, just like the Droid Gunship. The playability of the set is strong. The top canon can rotate and you can put minifigures in the center body. Chewbacca, Commander Gree and the Kashyyyk Trooper are pretty much the same as the 2014 figures. Besides the fact that it looks just like to 2014 model, the set seems awesome. 6.5/10

X-Wing Starfighter Trench Run (75235)
The turret in this set looks awesome. The X-Wing has a lot of white pieces and not a lot of grey pieces which seems unrealistic based on A New Hope movie. The sides where the pilot sits looks weird because it is exposed. Lots of people are not happy with the new Stormtrooper helmet design because you cannot move the helmet 360 degrees. I do however love the design of the new Stormtrooper helmet. This set retails for $29.99 on lego.com and the set only has 132 pieces. This set seems extremely overpriced, at most, I would expect it to cost $19.99. The piece to price ratio just doesn’t make the set worth it. I give this set a 3/10.

Escape Pod vs. Dewback Microfighter (75228)
This is by far my favorite Microfighter set ever! The Escape Pod and Dewback are designed so well. Normally, in dual micro fighter packs, we get 2 minifigures, but here we get 3, which seems like a bonus for the price. The Sandtrooper is very detailed and has lots of interchangeable equipment. This set is great for playability and display. I think that it is very cool that they designed the escape pod to fit both R2-D2 and C-3PO. This is my favorite set in the new wave and I give this set a 10/10

Naboo Starfighter (75223) and Sith Infiltrator Microfighters (75224)
I’m combining these two sets because in my opinion they are pretty much the same. They are great models and it seems strange to me that we haven’t seen these in previous series’. There’s not much to say about them, they are solid simple models. Both sets are a 6.5/10.

After studying these set from the online photos, there are a few sets I’m excited to add to my collection. Overall, I would give the entire wave a rating of 6/10. Happy New Year everyone! Lets make 2019 a creative year. Let me know what you think about the sets, which ones are you favorites?
